Agreed, would also like to get some insight into the reason behind this and whether it would be possible for the developer(s) to replace all assets with higher resolution ones. It is the only aspect of this implementation that detracts from the experience for me personally.
There are many other games with huge decks of unique cards so I don't think this is a storage / network bandwidth limitation.
You can see when zooming in on a card that the artwork looks mostly ok but the text has severe compression artifacts, making the game as a whole less accessible. A solution that has worked well in other games (e.g. Terraforming Mars, see attached screenshots) is to use blank cards and render the text on top rather than rasterizing it within the image. This achieves high quality at any scale/zoom level but requires a bit of work to implement properly.
In any case, switching to higher resolution assets would provide most of the same benefit and I imagine it would be much easier to get done. Hoping to see this happen and I would be happy to help with the technical work if needed. -
