I tried saving the notification settings again, but it didn't help. I asked friends about the problem and it seems like I'm not the only one with this issue.

Same for me, notifications arrive in my mail box.
I have been to the settings, modified one settings and saved, but that does not change.

Same problem here. I never got an email that I was invited to a game. Checked spam and nothing. Using Gmail.

I did get the automatic renewal notice for my subscription in mid-October, but I haven't received anything since then.

This bug exists. Myself and the 3 friends I play with all experience it.

As the op states, it is inconsistent in its reliability and as a paying premium user that's a bit disappointing.

We have checked spam. The messages either do not get sent or are undelivered. We all use Gmail if that helps.

The notifications I do receive all pass SPF and DKIM so unlikely that's the issue.

I noticed emails come from a 4 year old release of PHPMailer (5.2.28) so that might be worth looking at.

Depending on your logging you could audit your system for players that took a turn after the interval at which they should be sent a notification, but no notification is logged?

I'll hazard a guess that it's an overburdened system that can't keep up with the number of email jobs and to avoid an ever increasing queue, jobs are dropped if the user takes their turn before the job is actioned.
