It was implemented this way by choice (easier to implement), but it can be improved indeed.

I thought about it a little more: in a real game, the Hunted are free to speak with each other at any time, so they can tell each other which card they are selecting to discard, and the other hunted can play accordingly. As they play as a team, they have no reason to lie about it either.

So, I strongly believe that discarding "simultaneously" or "in any order" makes no real difference in the game. Changing the current implementation would take a few hours of work and could break other features, so I think it is for the best to keep it the way is it done.

Why not to implement it as the same way the selecting of cards in phase 1 is implemented?

So they might discard in any order, but will not know what the others choose to discard until everyone discard.

Yes, could do that, but it would take unfortunately about a day to implement, and would requires a database change too which increases the risk of breaking ongoing games.
