no comment on this one? I've personally enhances playability and competitiveness by quite a lot (same as how Ark Nova had drafted maps)

Impressive how this is still ignored, despite the fact that it would massively improve TFM on BGA. People complain how stale it is with Arena just played on one map, this would help massively. Meanwhile in Ark Nova...

The development of this game has been prioritizing getting the very small number of remaining bugs fixed. I do believe random map is on the horizon.

Really this is most important feature? How about you throw the dice and then you can start table with result of you dice throw map choice

I would recommend taking care of the few remaining bugs first.

Once that is done, a random map might be a good idea. People can basically randomize the map, as you noted, when playing non-arena games. But for Arena, that would not be possible. As of now, it can only be one map for each 3-month arena season.

You can't just "roll the dice and start a table" in Arena. You understand that, right? Yes, it probably is the most important feature for people playing Arena. If you see the Terraforming Mars forum each time a new arena season starts, people get tired of playing the same map (even if Tharsis is very well balanced).

Having random map option (and enabled in Arena, with perhaps 3 random maps such as Tharsis/Hellas/Elysium or Vastitas to replace Elysium) would be extremely beneficial.

Ark Nova having random map option enabled in Arena makes the Arena gameplay far more dynamic.

If it should be used for Arena, then random map should probably take into consideration only comparable maps, i.e. all except Amazonis Planitia, which has 11 oceans.

Maybe there could be 2 options Random standard size map and Random map (all).
First one would be suitable for current 2player Arena format

Is it possible to contribute to bugs? I am a backend developer and would happily contribute if it helps things like this, which massively improve gameplay, to get implemented

I recommend implementing random map with the 4 standard sized maps.

This would greatly improve the upcoming arena season. People would not be stuck playing the same map for 3 months.

The option to chose one of 4 standard maps randomly is implemented.
If you want feature to randomly generate map please open a different suggestion i.e. "Randomly generated map"
