I found this confusing as well at first, but the game actually let's you exchange crystals into another ressource when needed, e.g. when you already have 3 crystals and would get a fourth. So this is not game breaking in my opinion. But I agree, that there maybe should be a button for trading crystals into basic ressources, because in real life you could also do it at any time.

It could be game breaking, if you have an engine running which creates a lot of crystals and you have to take suboptimal actions not to waste them.

Playing with Nadair. Ability to spend books instead of Food. But I want to change 1 Crystal for 1 food, because I need all my books for later. But when I explore, it allows me only to spend 1 book instead of a Crystal.

when you get more crystal than you can hold, you will be able to choose different resources instead. So there is no need for that

That ist right so far, but in Case of Nadair, I can't use crystals, If I have enough books to spend as food.
But sometimes I want to keep my books for a later turn.
Should I open a new Ticket for this Case, since this one is now "notabug"?

The rules clearly state that you can perform a “Free Action: Exchange Crystals” at any time. This allows you to exchange one crystal for any other resource at a 1:1 ratio at any moment. However, this option is not available on BGA.

I agree that this action should be added. It would allow people to work around weird situation and, for instance for Naidar, pick crystals instead of books to do a certain action.

I have another case, which is that I'm trying to use the option under a card "Pay three foods to get as many crystals and points". I would want to exchange the three foods but already have two crystals. I'l like to transform those crystals first into books, before doing the action to. When I do this, the interface doesn't propose me to exchange the extra crystals into another resources.

When you are expending the three main resources (food, books, gears) to perform an action and don't have enough of one or more of those resources you can use your crystals to make up the difference.
