A friend and I had the same problem. In the discard phase of Turn One he had played a bunch of negative (Event) cards and was not able to discard down to the proper amount (3) because you cannot discard event cards.

I had the same error this evening so possibly not fixed? Played 4 barbarians round1 and couldnt discard down to 3 cards

Same. Well similar; in my case, I played 3 barbs turn 2, and could use 2 of them properly, but after that, I couldn't discard cards because all I had on the tableau were event cards.
