Look at how Hanabi works on BGA. They place an indicator on the card once you receive a hint, so you don't have to remember. I know in real life there no such indicator but it's absolutely required in this online environment. Even during real time game I they show this indicator, because you may look away momentarily or multitask while playing.

I agree. Even small letter above the tile and I take notes if "B is red" would solve.

There could be improvements to make it more fluid turn-based (I like the idea of indicating the previous player's actions), but overall I'm torn on this issue.

I admit that I had to use the replay a lot. It's a short game, so replaying it doesn't take long and at the same time it's still difficult to keep track of everything - which I think is as it should be.

I'd argue that memorization is much more central to Yokai than to Hanabi. Most people can keep track of hints during Hanabi and the game is still playable even if they can't (or I couldn't play with elderly relatives ;-)). So the BGA interface for Hanabi is basically allowing players to do what they would be able to do anyway.

Yeah, I agree wit Spiegel, I believe the memory part is way more important in Yokai.

I’d suggest implementing the following or at the very least making them an option:
- display a player’s eye in the corner of a card after they’ve peeked at it and leave it there until the end of the game
- add a grid of coordinates to help remember the absolute position of cards (on an IRL table, you’d do that with the patterns of the table or other ways); the log would then state "johndoe moves yokai from F8 to K10"
- (leave the cards I’ve seen face up)

OR

- make the replay MUCH faster

I like the idea of keeping cards I have seen face up, especially since you can see the exact same information when you do a replay. And lets face it, if you have to view the replay every time in order to play this game turn based, then something NEEDS to be added because that is crazy to have to replay the game to that point every turn.

I'm sad there still is nothing for this. I would have hoped that the log would have a grid position start and end movement but it's just "they moved something" and no indication of what they moved and where.

There is no replay option for mobile, so turned based games are really really hard on mobile, even when you take good notes
