We also noticed that when a new word is played the cubes have to be put back by the player. Sometimes it;s forgotten or overseen and that gives weird gameplay Table #114815990

You actually don't have to do this, a F5 clear them.
I haven't put a notif that auto clear because I'm not sure what is the best to do this since I think most player would like to take a look at previous hint before going to new word.

Could it be that the old pieces stay until the next player chooses a word and are then autoremoved?

Even during the same word, you may want to clear the table and start over (as the clue giver)

Likewise I should be able to clear one color. Clear all blue, for example.

That's a good idea for the "clean all" / "clean {color}" button for the clue giver.
The automatic clearing when the new player chooses a word might still not be perfect since some people might want to look at previous hint a bit longer (picking a word can be really fast)

You've got to clear the cubes when a new word begins anyway. The other suggestion about a popup with the answer is good. It should include a summary of the icons that had cubes (like how the rulebook presents examples). Then the board can clear immediately but users see the last answer in the popup and can dismiss it themselves when ready.

I can't put a nice summary for this variant where the hints can be put anywhere.
I actually implemented the "snapped" version first (where you click on the symbol where you want to give an hint), but BGA admins told me to do this one instead... (but I'm gonna add this as a gameoption in the future)
So I'm not sure how to put a summary without actually keeping the hints on the table.
