I'm totally agree. This will prevent people to cheat the system not finishing tables where they are losing.

No turn-based games in the arena, pretty simple. It‘s a completely different game.

I don't agree with the "going real time" because most people can't be online at a given time. However I suggest the following modification : when a game arrive under 96hours of end of season give each player a maximum of 48 hours (instead of increasing time per turn) and prevent the "holiday" trick to add time.
If a game start less than 96 hours from end of season give half the remaining time to each player (with warning before launching)

This way all games will have to end at deadline.

Like in turn based tournaments set the maximum available time per player to maximum half the remaining time till the end of the season. If game is not yet finished at end of season, the player with less time left (i.e. with negative remaining time) will loose.

Perhaps it would be good to have time options like in tournaments instead of 1 turn / day etc.

Example:
9 days before end of season, each player gets 4.5 days thinking time (no holiday jokers possilbe).

Solution seems quite straightforward: somewhere between 1 week and 48 hours before the end of the season (depending on game or turn speed settings), freeze turn based games (no new tables), and switch the current games to timing similar to tournaments: fixed amount of remaining time so that the game end at the same time as the season. No additional time per turn.

Why not split turn-based and real-time arenas ? Tournaments are already separated, why not the arena as well ?

This would not solve the problem entirely, but at least remove it for real-time arena. And this would also allow for longer seasons in turn based (which makes sense since the games are much longer), so the problem could appear less often in turn-based.

If that's still not enough, dudi2's suggestion, although probably hard to implement, sounds interesting and fair.

Switching the remaining turn-based games into a real-time with equal~ish time limits would be really beneficial to actually make most games to finish. Especially now, when we have a firm deadline for starting new games at arena's season end.
