For two players this is exactly stated in the rule book, yes. It's weird that here we only get two

Alternative rules are already applied when playing with 2 or 3 players. Beware that, according to the rules, player elimination still applies (after losing two rounds)!

So, in a 2 player game, there is a maximum of 3 rounds to play. That is why it's not recommended to play this game with only 2 people.

"If a Scientist wins 3 experiments, they are the winner; conversely a Scientist is eliminated after they have
lost 2 experiments."

Yes but in the rule book, it stipulates that the alternative rules could be applied to any number of players if you play with people who don't like direct elimination games. That's what we were referring to when asking for the alternative rules.

So I talked to the game designer about this issue and she told me that also in a 2 player game, you only have two "lives". So I'll leave the 2 and 3 player variant as it is.

But if you prefer longer games, I implemented a variant where you can also have 2 lives in 4-6 player games.
