If it helps repro:
I had 3 compasses in camp.
I had one card in hand and used its free action to get my 4th compass.
I clicked on the Guiding Skull
Showed error that I didn't have enough compass.
This happened every time, even after reloading page. (F5)

Note: that I did check the rule book (English vewrsion) and it does say when you buy an Artifact, you have the OPTION to immediately resolve its effect (ignoring the tablet cost in the corner)

This happened to me as well. The game table was 167116538, I was playing with a friend. My plan was to get this artifact from turn 1. The game should let me buy it, even without activating its effect. It currently doesn't do so.

This exact thing happened to me, and I had 4 compasses.

This is a very strong artifact, please fix it as soon as possible

I am trying to use Monkey Medallion to buy Guiding Artifact. I don't have a spare compass that people here are reporting here are reporting is an issue.

I did have enough compass to trigger the effect but was using the gold side of the assistant who provides a minus 2 discount for items.

It kept erroring and not letting me use it.

How is this still an issue when it was reported 4 years ago? this error is still in place. You don't have the option to not use the effect of a bought artifact card, and if you can't pay for the effect, you're not allowed to buy it, which is in direct conflict with the actual lost ruins of arnak rules.
