In turn-based games, players can be forced into games they do not want to participate in.

A game can be created with 4 players.
One other person joins. They have to accept the game configuration before the table fills, as it is a turn-based game.
The table administrator (who cannot decrease the player count to 3, because this is a change to table configuration after someone has joined) can still start the game now, with only 2 players, forcing the other player into a 2-player game when they signed up for a 4-player game. I tested this on table 194828402

I feel like I may have a different take on why I would like player range restored. I organize rolling table of two simultaneous turn games that we play over days with 7 to 11 people. We always know who will be able to join the next game; so I set a range to allow a few people to drop out either explicitly or by timeout, but not have to have the whole table recreated.
We are playing turn-based (bunch of friends) and it may take time to get everyone to accept; so recreating is annoying.

I would love to see this re-instated. It is really discouraging larger tables of real time games, out of fear that players will drop before it starts.

It also kills larger tables for turn based games, as if the number of players isn’t reached, the game just is abandoned without starting :(

I honestly don't know why it's dropped.
you can always set the range to "6-6" if you want to wait until it filled.
but if you want a 4-6 table, you should have the option to.

also - pepole should be able what the possible range is, and join/not join accordingly.

I noticed that very often when I choose to open a table for 2 players (and not allow flexibility on that), suddenly I am added to a larger table, e.g. 3 or 5 players. I'm not really interested, and I need to decline multiple times before getting finally what I want. This should be fixed, please :)

I wanted to play with 3 players. 3 players were gathered, I start the game. By the time I press the button, a player leaves and the game starts with 2 players. There should be a way to prevent the game from starting with less than x players.
