That is an interesting suggestion. I can see the value of having an alternate dictionary with only more common words, not just for addressing the cheating problem, but also for supporting more casual play (if desired). Adding one or more of the 12dicts sources probably wouldn't be difficult.

Do you have any suggestions about which 12dicts source would work best? It seems like either 2of12inf (wordlist.aspell.net/12dicts-readme/#2of12inf) or 3of6game (wordlist.aspell.net/12dicts-readme/#3of6game) is recommended for this use case. (wordlist.aspell.net/12dicts-readme/#whichlist)

Current Hardback implementation uses both for '12dicts' option (2of12inf + 3of6game), but using either alone would be also fine.

12dicts word pool is quite restrictive, so I recommend putting a warning on the option label (like 'This option is
oriented towards common words and designed for casual or restrictive plays).
Hardback does not have a challenge mechanism but Letter Tycoon does.

It's interesting that 12dicts-based word lists are so little liked by word game fans. While I still think adding it as an option would likely be a net positive, it's unfortunate that people would have to choose between the possibility of cheaters and an overly restrictive word list.

As expected. Pouring over dictionaries to find an obscure term and using it is satisfying. 12dicts eliminates it.
Also, core word gamers are pretty likely to being hit hard from restrictive word list, especially by the challenge rule.
It's a second-worst plan rather second-best, I guess. Shutting Arena and rank down is another option.
