or maybe just a warning prompt when the game detects you close yourself off. It shouldn't happen that often.

I agree with this issue. My preferred solution would be to show how it will be placed and have a confirm. That would avoid accidentally placing a sharp turn in place of a wide turn and vice versa.

Show the track and allow me to confirm.
I see that is an option- it should be ON be default

As noted by Meeplelover, placing rails leading into mountains and board edges should be prevented

please please please add a confirmation, or allow the rotation, of rail placements

Yeah. It's quite easy currently to make a mistake.

Maybe an extra confirmation step when you build a rail in the following cases:
- the rail does not connect to any previous rail or city
- the rail is next to a city but it does not connect to the city and at least one of the new rail end points is not connected to a previous rail, city or town
- the rail is next to a loose end rail but it does not connect to it and at least one of the new rail end points is not connected to a previous rail, city or town
