In live play, only the top card of the discard pile is displayed (per the manual, this is to distinguish it from the discard pile). In online play, to avoid having to ask which card is placed on top each time, the discard pile is hidden altogether (there is no need to distinguish it from the discard pile).

If this bothers you, you need not play with private information enabled.

When you play in person, are people allowed to not show what they play as they play the cards? I 100% believe the discard pile should be hidden but not showing the cards as they're played doesn't make sense. In real life you see the cards as they're played. I don't think anybody is going to scroll through an entire history to figure out what's been played already.

In person, people are required to show the cards they are using as part of the play, but not the cards they are adding to their discard pile. The former is indicated in the log. The latter is hidden, just like when you play in person.

It sounds like you're asking for a visual representation of every card played. I'm not sure how that would be presented to the user, especially in async games, without being completely messy. Instead, we show it with the log. The UI developer even added a feature where you can hover over a card name in the log and see the card itself. How cool is that?

If by log you mean this: 'LilBlueSpider spends 2 (med symbol) to start hiring Assassin.' then I fully agree with the complaint here. It is very weird you cannot see what cards others have used for actions on their turn. You can try to puzzle it together... but this makes it extremely odd, time consuming and new player unfriendly. Please just list what cards are used to do which actions instead.

Nope. You wouldn't be allowed to check those cards in an actual game; the rulebook even suggests tucking them under the card you bought to conceal them.

Again, if this bothers you, feel free to change the information hiding settings in your own games.

Thanks for sharing that viewpoint. I can see how it could be annoying for new players.

In this instance, we're going to stick with the rule book as written, which doesn't require that you display your cards for other players.

So the rule book is not being followed here. In fact: I can still check what is in the discard pile (maybe that is due to information settings in the particular game), which is not according to the rules as written, but that still makes it a guessing game which cards have actually been used for what action on a player's turn!

Read the rules again, I implore you. It is clearly not how it is meant to be played.

Actually, you're correct. I think I misunderstood which prompt you were asking about, but yes, if I am hunting, you need to be able to see which cards I've used rather than take it on faith that I was able to scrounge up six food.

Kayvon will have to resolve this issue, though.
