Disagree. If you look at page 17 of the rulebook ("About Note Taking") you will see that the publisher recommends using 3 different symbols in the notepad. For more information, the "Game Hints & Tips" page from the publisher (www.northstargames.com/pages/paint-the-roses-hints-and-tips) explains how some positive information can be less likely to be the actual answer for the whim card (see: Look at Choices the Active Gardner Didn’t Make). Being able to track this information is key to winning the game.

This strategy of provisionally eliminating a combination is explained in more detail in the Publisher's "Paint the Roses Strategy Guide" (cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0283/4324/files/PtR_Strategy_Guide.pdf). However, it relies on all players reasoning in the same way. Since a player may make an error in their reasoning (e.g. they accidentally overlooked a possibility), it's important to differentiate between a combination that is impossible because "negative" information exists, versus a combination that the group only *thinks* is less likely to be the answer.

There are only two symbols in page 17. What you think as the third symbol is actually an erased circle:
- If you have multiple circled spaces, cross these out as they are shown to be incorrect.

In fact, if players manage to check all information correctly (which automatic note mode does) a single check symbol naturally leads to the correct answer.
